Q.E.D. Landscape
left
The new paintings
investigate landscape as a visual idiom and a placeholder for a
romantic notion of beauty. I am not trying to treat beauty ironically,
however. The landscape serves as one template in which the activity of
painting can proceed, without puzzling over what to paint. And the romanticized beauty of landscape becomes poignant as a subject through its fragility, its naiveté.
