| This series of paintings draws inspiration from the Biblical
story of the flood: the landscape and seascape, animals and their preservation,
and the architecture of boats. I was interested in the idea of acting as a naturalist, cataloguing animals according to simple rules, and depicting these animals in an iconographic way. I found myself reflecting on how, before the days of photography, naturalists had to draw animals themselves, or even describe them to artists who had never seen them. The resulting pictures were something between the actual creature and the artist's idea of it. |
